Fabienne's Favourite

Fabienne knows who she is any why this is named after her. As far as I know, she does not have a web page so I cannot provide a link. Anyway, she is married to my friend Mike so you will have to restrict yourself to this appetiser.

You need a tin of mandarin orange segments in syrup, some Cointreau and some vodka. I use Smirnoff Blue Label myself. Purists who are offended by my choice of a canned product should understand that it is essential for the fruit to have been soaked in a sweet syrup for some time. If you do this yourself, you may as well have used the canned product anyway.

The very small tins that you can buy will do for two people.

Open the can and empty the contents into a glass bowl. Measure an amount of Cointreau equivalent to half of the volume of the can and add this to the bowl. Do the same with the vodka. Stir it all up, cover it and put it in the fridge for 24 hours.

You will serve this in whiskey tumblers and you should chill them in the fridge before serving.

If you like, you can lah-de-dah it up a bit by dipping the rims of the glasses in the liquor and then frosting them with soft brown sugar. (Unrefined of course.)
